— THE PROBLEM
YOUR EVENTS WORK. THE WAY THEY ARE MEASURED DOES NOT.
In-house event teams are asked to prove their value with frameworks built for digital marketing. Click through, last-touch attribution, cost per lead. Events were never designed to answer those questions, so they look weaker on a dashboard than they are in the pipeline.
That is a currency problem, not a value problem. Until the profession agrees on what to count and how to count it, every event team negotiates its budget from a weaker position than the results deserve.
This report is where that conversation starts. It gives you the benchmarks, the shared language and the comparisons you need to walk into a budget meeting with numbers rather than anecdotes.
Events generate real pipeline influence and relationship value. They are judged against attribution models they were never built to meet.
— THE FINDINGS
SIX FINDINGS THAT CHANGE HOW YOU ARGUE FOR YOUR BUDGET
ICEN has conducted annual benchmarking research for the past six years. Fieldwork for the 2026/2027 report closed in September 2026. Here is what the data says.
VOLUME, NOT HEADCOUNT, DRIVES THE APPROVAL GAP
How many events you run predicts budget friction better than how big your team is. Use it to reframe a resourcing conversation.
INFRASTRUCTURE BEATS OWNERSHIP
Teams with documented engagement scoring and CRM integration demonstrate pipeline better. Owning ROI on paper, without that plumbing, shows no advantage.
AI IS WIDE BUT SHALLOW
97% of teams use AI somewhere. Only 13% have it embedded across planning, personalisation and reporting. Most of it is content production, not commercial proof.
- Use AI somewhere 97%
- AI embedded across the work 13%
AI IS AUGMENTING, NOT CUTTING
65% see AI as augmenting their team. Only 2% are reducing headcount. The real shift is in skills, not jobs.
- See AI as augmenting 65%
- Reducing headcount 2%
THE EVENT PROFESSION IS MOVING PAST LOGISTICS
Identity is shifting from delivery to commercial influence, and the C-suite representation numbers show how far there is to go.
THE CAPACITY SQUEEZE AND THE ACCESSIBILITY BLIND SPOT
Two pressures most teams are carrying quietly, with the benchmarks to show you are not alone.
Plus the shared language framework the network is standardising on: pipeline-influenced attendee, cost per pipeline-influenced attendee, engagement scoring model, business outcome alignment, multi-touch attribution and matched non-attendee comparison.

— METHODOLOGY
HOW THE RESEARCH WAS DONE
Six years, annually
UK, Germany, USA
18 Sept 2026
In-house only
ICEN has conducted annual benchmarking research for the past six years. The Corporate Events Benchmarking Report 2026/27 is the latest edition, drawing on responses from senior in-house corporate event professionals across the UK, Germany and the USA. The full sample size is stated in the report itself. Unlike research that combines inhouse, agency and supplier responses, this study includes in-house responses only. Fieldwork for the 2026/2027 report closed on 18 September 2026. Every respondent works in-house. No agency or supplier responses are included.
Where questions changed between annual studies, we say so rather than presenting a year-on-year comparison that does not hold. Multi-select questions are footnoted where responses sum past 100%.
Cvent is the research sponsor and platform partner for the Corporate Events Benchmarking Report 2026/27. ICEN researches, the community answers, Cvent makes it possible. Cvent had no influence over the questions asked or the findings reported.
— FAQ
QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK BEFORE THEY JOIN
WHAT IS THE CORPORATE EVENTS BENCHMARKING REPORT?
The Corporate Events Benchmarking Report is the corporate events profession’s own measure of itself, now in its fifth year. Produced by ICEN and supported by Cvent, it draws on responses from in-house corporate event leaders across the UK, Germany and the US, with fieldwork for the 2026/2027 edition closing in September 2026.
It tracks how teams are structured and resourced, how budgets are set and owned, which metrics are actually used to prove commercial value, and where the profession is heading. ICEN researches, the community answers, Cvent makes it possible.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The report is free. Every edition is published at no cost to the corporate events profession, whether you take part in the research or not, whether you are an ICEN member or not. Sponsorship from Cvent is what makes that possible. We research, the community answers, and the findings go back to everyone who needs them.
HOW QUICKLY WILL I RECEIVE IT?
Straight away. As soon as you submit the form, the report is sent to the email address you gave us, usually within a few minutes. If it hasn’t arrived after ten minutes, check your spam or junk folder, or email support@intcorpevents.com and we’ll send it to you again.
WHO CAN JOIN ICEN?
The ICEN Corporate Club is for anyone who plans, budgets for or defends corporate events inside a company: heads of events, global event leads, event marketing managers and the marketing leaders they report into. Joining is free for in-house corporate event professionals. If you’re an agency, venue or supplier, our partnership team can help you find the best way to work with the network.
WILL MY DATA BE SHARED WITH THE SPONSOR?
Only your name, email address and company. Cvent, as our research sponsor, receives first name, last name, email and company for everyone who downloads the report. Nothing else is shared. Your individual survey responses are never passed on, and all findings are reported in aggregate so no person or organisation can be identified.
CAN I USE THE FINDINGS IN MY OWN BOARD PAPERS?
Yes, and we encourage it. The report exists to give you credible, independent evidence to put in front of your leadership. Quote the data, lift the charts, build your business case around it. All we ask is that you credit the ICEN Benchmarking Report so your board knows where the numbers came from.
HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER REPORT?
ICEN is an independent community of in-house corporate event professionals, and the questions, analysis and conclusions are ours alone. Cvent sponsors the research, which is what keeps it free, but has no say in what we ask or what we publish. The answers come from people doing the same job as you, not from a vendor’s customer base.
